Whales, Fish, and Squid

Whales, Fish, and Squid is the first larger piece in an ongoing series of paintings that I started when we were all stuck at home because of the onset of COVID. This one was finished in August of 2022.
This was drawn with Micron markers and Faber Castell brush markers on an 18″ x 24″ sheet of watercolor paper. Acrylics were then used to layer color over the drawing until it was richly colored in a way that couldn’t be replicated digitally. I developed this process over the last twenty years, where I learned that thin layers of color create a much more vibrant “glow” than a single thinker layer of paint. Next, iridescent paint was used on the water to bring a subtle vibrance to the dark purple color of the sea.
This is a giant jpeg with 600dpi resolution, which can be printed as large as 48″ x 36″ or projected to the size of a movie theater.
